Diebold high security safe

Posted by Jim, Westminster CA on April 16, 2008 at 13:57:12:

I have a Diabold high security safe built in 1940 with Yale locks on both the main door and the inner safe door. It's 22" font to bakc and side to side and 26" tall. The door has a crane type of hinge. It's in good condition but it's clear that somebody has worked on the locks. I was a Navy locksmith from 1965 to 1968. I understand locks but the Navy only had S&G locks. I removed the wheels and cleaned them but the dial did now pull out of the front. I thought that it would. Is there something that retains it? Also, with a safe such as this, is there the danger of hidden deterents? Tear gas or any other surprises in the door? I'm having trouble finding information on this safe. Is there a web site where I can learn more about it? Can I trace the serial number on the door handle? How do you go about learning the history of a safe?
Thanks, jim.
