My friend has locked some papers - not too important in the safe and lost the keys. Cost to open £150. It is a John Port and sounds like it is late 19th Century.

Can the hinges be cut away with an angle grinder? I was wondering if the locking mechanism has bolts on both sides of the door. Anybody any items to open otherwise?

Will probably invest in a smaller modern safe once retrieved items and then dump this safe.
