The dial has no lettering other than the numbers. It appears to be stainless steel. The center of the dial is simply black.

My usual procedure is to spin the dial several times right, then turn left and start counting the number of times the first number hits the pointer. ON the fourth encounter I stop, and then turn right and stop when the secend number is encountered for the third time. Then I turn right stop when the third number is encountered for the second time. then I turn left and there is a click at zero, and a second click at 90. NOrmally the dial stops about 78 and the opening lever can be pushed down and the drawer opened. Now the dial does't stop.

I think a hear a new noise, a rubbery squeaking as I turn the dial.

Any ideas to try? I have tried pushing hard on the dial, tapping with my hand, lifting the control drawer slightly with a screwdriver, and putting pressure on the unlcking handle. I have magnets if this might help.
