Dennis: Remington Rand made safes as well as the type of file you own. Unfortunately Remington Rand is one of the companies known to have used asbestos as insulation during the manufacturing process. I'm not sure how you feel about asbestos but most of those type safes and files are disposed of properly and replaced with modern Your file is probably at least 50 years old so the quality of the insulation is questionable anyway...
