A true landmark since 1954. I wish we could post links here. The Wall Street Journal ran a great piece on it November 4, 2010. Also there are many architecture sites telling its history including photos of it due to its significance. The placement of the polished round vault door in plain site from the sidewalk was a real trademark. I fear the place will be bulldozed in a few years when the real estate market picks up and a new nameless, no character pile of steel and concrete will take its place. On the other hand, the door might be for sale... |
