Mosler safe parts needed

Posted by Tim, Denver, Colorado on February 04, 2010 at 08:57:37:

I picked up an old Mosler safe recently and I know absolutely nothing about it, or safes in general. Figured this would be a good place to start!

The serial number on the handle is 133237 - based on a list of serial numbers I found that puts it circa 1898. It's been drilled, is missing the dial and all interior workings for the locking mechanism. The handle & latch do however work fine.

It wouldn't let me put a link to it in here but you can put this in your address bar to get to the pics: bit.ly/b2R4nk

What model/type of safe is this?

At the very least I'd like to source a replacement dial for it. The recessed area is 3" diameter and has 668 stamped on it so I assume I need a 3" dial. Can anyone point me in the right direction for what the part number I need is or where to get one?

It would be great if I could rebuild the locking mechanism, either using replacement parts if they exist or modern parts, however I understand this might be a big undertaking! Any ideas?

I really appreciate anyone's help with this!

Cheers,
Tim
