I have two nearly identical file cabinet "secret" safes. Both were working well. I loaded them with gun parts and now one won't open.

There is very litle play in the control drawer. I am able to lift the drawer slightly using a screwdriver, and can move it slightly left and right. I have tried having the unlocking handle in different positions. Do you have any suggestions as to the best way to relieve pressure on the mechanism?

The dial looks like stainless steel. There is no writing other than numbers. The center portion is simply black.

I spin right (CW) at least four times (I didn't think this mattered), then turn Left and stop when the first (of three) numbers is met for the fourth time. Then I turn the dial right and stop when the second number is met for the third time. Then I turn left and stop when the third number is met for the second time. Then I turn right and it clicks on zero, clicks again at 90, and then it usually stopped at about 78 at which point the unlocking handle could be pushed down and the drawer opened. Now the dial doesn't stop and keeps spinning.

There is what I think is a new sound, a rubbery squeeking as I turn the dial.

I have strong magnets. Could these help an inner part engage? Would tapping the dial with a hammer help? Should I try a lubricant such as penetrating oil?

Yes, I could use a referral. I live just south of Richmond, VA, in Chesterfield county.
