combination for safe

Bought 1920s house and prior owner did not have the combination for a very heavy Diebold safe with round door at top... no visible opening for the bottom. Any idea how I can get the combination, without hiring a locksmith? Door is open, and there is a Underwriters Incorporated number on the inside plate of the round door.
