We've just purchased a beautiful home built in the 30's with a Hall's Safe & Lock Co. safe in the corner of a small room. The top of the safe front, above the hand-painted outer door, say's "The Wonder." Dimentions of the safe body itself are: Height 36 1/4 inches, Width 30 1/2 inches, Depth 28 1/2 inches. The Safe body is mounted on four fixed casters (ie., don't swivel). Each cast iron wheel is 5 1/4" diameter.

The outer door of the safe has been opened by a professional (legal or otherwise?) with what may have been small explosive charges. The inner door has been similarly forced, but with cold chisel marks around the locking mechanism. The outer dials of both door locks are now gone.

We've been warned by a local safe expert that moving this safe out through the house very likely is a huge liability due to its weight, which may result in irrepairable floor damage, or in the safe falling through the floor into the basement. Once there, it's essentially irretrievable without major access to lift it out. Additionally, we cant see upward through the finished ceiling in our basement to check whether the floor under the safe has been reinforced to accomodate its weight.

Specific questions would be:
1) What would this safe model weigh?
2) What would moving it safely and without damage accross an oak hardwood floor through the house involve?
3) Do moving professionals exist that are fully licensed and bonded, with the proper insurance, that would take this on without any liability to us?
4) What could the danger to the house involve?
