The first benefit is to yourself. You will learn your weaknesses and strengths and have the ability to determine what you want to know and what you don't see the value in.

The second strength is to your employer and customers/clients. They can determine if you are properly qualified to do the job properly at least to a minimum standard. If a crisis occurs, you can testify in court as to what steps were taken to prevent it. Joe Schmo "I taught myself everything I know and by virtue of having learned it all am now a master locksmith" has no credibility but what he claims to have. Certification means that an accreditation group thinks you might know it. That is credibility.

The CIL or CRL levels are minimum standards that basically mnean you have learned to use the language of locksmiths and determine what the catalogues are telling you. When you go for the higher levels you really push yourself harder to achieve more, learn more and be better prepared.
