Chicago Scale Co. was either the local dealer for a safe and vault maker or the original owner.

There was a scale company in the SF Bay Area that was a local agent/dealer for a safe maker. Their name was painted on every safe they sold, but they weren't the maker.

It also used to be an option for the buyer of a safe to have their name painted on the safe door or frame. So it could be either in your case.

If you made clear detailed photos available someone here might be able to identify the maker.

The dimensions you give make it sound like a vault door, not a safe. If it's a vault door it needs the original frame to be of any use, if it's a safe door it has no use without the box it was originally mounted on.
